Shell Ridge Sunset, Walnut Creek
The day before a full moon is when I like to take photos of the moon. The foreground is a bit lighter, allowing me to include other elements, and not just a silhouette. This day, though, the soufflé of clouds had other plans. It hid the moon. It was my first time hiking this area, so I didn't have a backup spot, if the moonshot was skunked.
Seeing the clouds behind me shift, with the sun quickly descending below the horizon, I hurriedly climbed uphill through some dry, thorny, grassy slope. As soon as I saw the rocks and the small tree, I knew the day was not going to be a complete bust.
Sometimes, you just have to go a little farther--climb a little higher--to claim your reward, and discover something new.
